British Tigers F.C. Crowned APSL Champions 2011-2012 Season

On Sunday January 19, 2012 the Arlington Premier Soccer League hosted the Cup final between British Tigers F.C. and Wobblers F.C. This was the first time that the clubs had met in a final despite their long history. British Tigers finished the regular season atop the league, but Wobblers boosted an impressive cup record having won the previous year’s APSL title and back to back Terrill Cups for the year 2011. It was sure to be an exciting final.

Wobblers had a strong start to the game enjoying some early possession and some early chances with Josh Fleming hitting the outside of the post with one of them. After a slow start from the Tigers they started to carve out some chances, hitting the post themselves and forcing a few good saves from the Wobblers keeper, leaving it scoreless in the 1st half.

The Wobblers enjoyed some early possession in the 2nd half but were unable to break down the Tigers back four. Due to the fact that Wobblers only had 1 substitute it was inevitable that they would start to tire as the half wore on, allowing Tigers some more space to run into. Tigers created several more chances but were unable to find a break through until the 68th minute when Tim Martin was first to react as the Wobblers keeper, Bryn Varhol was unable to keep hold of the ball from a corner kick. Tigers narrowly missed a couple more chances before Dave Atkinson made it 2-0 in the 85th minute after a nice pass from Matt Miller. Wobblers pushed forward in the dying minutes but were unable to put anything past the Tigers keeper, Stephen Elliot who kept his 6th clean sheet for the season. Man of the match for the Tigers goes to Rich Edgar who had a stand out season.

This was the 3rd APSL Title for British Tigers F.C. in the 5 seasons the league has been played since it was established in December 2007. Aegean Hawks and Wobblers F.C. lifted the trophy in 2009 and 2010 respectively.
